There are many types of salt these days. The most common is the iodized salt.

Iodine is a very important mineral needed for the thyroid and for the rest of the body. If you don’t have enough iodine for your thyroid, then you may have a low thyroid condition called hypothyroidism.

However, some people have a condition called hyperthyroidism in which they are supposed to avoid the extra iodine content.

So, regular iodized salt can be great for a person with hypothyroidism, but it would be bad for a person with hyperthyroidism. Generally, you would only need one fourth tsp of iodized salt if you had a low thyroid function.

For people who have hyperthyroidism, iodized salt should be avoided. There are certain sea salts that have trace minerals in them and this is evident by the grey or pink color of the salt. There may be a certain amount of iodine in these salts, but it is unclear just how much.

Iodized and processed salt is bad for people who have heart disease. Studies have shown that because of the high processing, this kind of salt is abrasive to the arteries and veins. More information: more info
